TRENTON— Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 357, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2, when services will be held to remember and celebrate the life of Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. Congressman Payne passed away at age 65 on Wednesday, April 24, leaving behind his loving wife, Beatrice, and their three children, Donald III, Jack, and Yvonne. Born and raised in Newark, Congressman Payne served as the U.S Representative for New Jersey's 10th Congressional District since 2012.

"Congressman Payne leaves behind a remarkable legacy of leadership and principled public service," said Governor Murphy. "Following in his father's footsteps, the Congressman was a champion for working families all across the Garden State. During his many years of service to New Jersey, he tirelessly advocated for public health, safety, and infrastructure, and with each legislative victory, he improved the lives of millions of Americans. As Tammy and I mourn the loss of our dear friend, we are keeping Beatrice, their children, and all who knew and loved Congressman Payne in our prayers."
